My Thoughts

What a sweet story! Picture Perfect Boyfriend is a YA novel with a quirky romantic premise, but primarily it’s a book about looking past other’s expectations and just being true to yourself. Determined to gain the acceptance and approval of her parents, Kenzie leaves for Hawaii with her camera at home and struggles to be the person her serious, ophthalmology loving family wants her to be. Then there’s Jacob – who exactly is this boy pretending to be her boyfriend and why is he crashing her family vacation?

The mystery and motivation behind Jacob/Jake’s appearance pulled me in and the reluctant fake dating dynamic was so much fun and endearing. Gran was my favorite supporting character and she added such humor to the book – that banana bread scene made me snort with laughter. 😂 I didn’t care for much of the rest of the family but ultimately they were coming from a good place. The gorgeous setting in the Hawaiian islands made me absolutely jealous and the family activities had me itching to plan my own trip. If you’re a YA contemporary fan I recommend picking this one up!
