Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
I actually didn’t intend to read Red, White, and Royal Blue over the weekend. I started feeling the beginning of a slump coming on though so I grabbed the book on a whim and just flew through it in little over a day.
RW&RB is a hate to love romance featuring Alex, the son of the first female U.S. President and Henry, a prince of England. Normally with hate to love tropes I feel like majority of the book involves the characters realizing their feelings for each other and then the book generally ends right as they fall in love. In this case, the hate portion of the trope actually ended pretty early on in the story but I think that was a good choice. I loved Alex and Henry’s relationship and liked that we saw a lot more of them together and navigating their relationship in secret. Alex’s relationship with Henry conflicts with his desire to begin a career in politics, and Henry struggles with hiding his true self to reflect the image his family wants to portray. How can Alex and Henry keep their relationship without losing other parts of their lives?
The supporting characters were great and I loved the dynamic of their friend group. It’s funny, steamy, and sweet and overall this was just a great read. Fans of Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall will probably like this book and vice versa. I definitely recommend it and can see a re-read sometime in the future!
