It Ends with Us is out in theaters today! I’m probably one of the few people who have not read the book by this point. I’m planning on watching the movie this weekend though so I’d like to try and binge read it tonight and tomorrow before I go. I’m still working through my other reads as well so it will be a big reading weekend for me!

I went to the signing at @eagleeyebooks back in February and it was such a great experience getting to meet with Danielle Jensen and hear her talk about her books. She mentioned being inspired by John Gwynne’s The Shadow of the Gods and having read both I can confirm that it has the same viking energy but with a heavier focus on romance. It was an easy read with an interesting magic system and I just fell in love with Bjorn alongside Freya. This is a book for Six of Crows fans - it’s a MPV heist story in a Korean inspired fantasy setting. The characters were distinct and compelling enough to finish the book but I struggled a lot with the pacing. Most of the book felt like an introduction to the characters and their motivations for participating in the heist but none of the action really happened until the end. I did enjoy the ending though and I think the next installment will likely take off running.

Happy August everyone! July absolutely flew by and this month is looking like it will be just as busy for me. I got through about half of last month’s hopefuls before my mood reading took over and I veered off the TBR. I’m sure August will be the same but I still wanted to share the books I’m most excited about right now. ✨

QOTD: Which book or series do you consider a comfort read?

I may be a little biased but I loved this book! Deborah Harkness’ All Souls trilogy is one of my favorite series so I was ecstatic to find out she was continuing Diana and Matthew’s story. It’s a slower read compared to the previous books but I enjoyed the exploration of Diana’s ancestral family magic and it built a great foundation for the next installment. It’s really hard to say much more about the book without spoiling the original trilogy but it was such a joy to listen to.

I have sort of mixed feelings about this book. Overall I liked it but I really struggled to connect with the writing. I kept thinking I would have enjoyed the book better as a tv show (and apparently BBC has already commissioned it for a six-part series). In all honesty I likely would have put it down but I loved the themes, characters, and humor enough to finish.

I couldn’t resist a themed book stack so here’s my attempt at red, white, and blue.

My family is grilling out by the pool today so we’re going to head over there shortly. Fingers crossed I can finish at least one book by the end of the day. 🤞🏼

Happy July everyone! ☀️🏖️

June was just one big slump for me as far as reading goes. I finished a few books but started another 4 or 5 that I never finished. I’m feeling a lot more refreshed and motivated for July but still can’t seem to settle on a book or genre. These are a few I’m considering right now but who knows what I’ll pick up (or finish) next.
