I have a confession to make – when I first joined this tour I thought A Most Unusual Duke was just a regular regency romance. I had no clue it was part of a shapeshifter series until the book arrived but I’m glad I gave it a shot! The prose took me a little while to get used to, but once I adjusted I found I enjoyed the unique combination of paranormal and historical romance (not two genres I would have normally expected to pair well together). The story reads like the voice of Bridgerton’s Lady Whistledown were she ever to publish her own romance novel. It has the same sort of humor and tone you find with Whistledown’s society papers and is just as entertaining. Arthur and Beatrice are initially a distant couple forced into marriage and I enjoyed watching their relationship slowly evolve from rigid opposition to genuine affection. I really didn’t know what to expect going into this novel but I was pleasantly surprised and am looking forward to seeing what comes next.
