From Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is one of the best examples of a slow burn/forbidden romance that I’ve read in a while. The relationship isn’t exactly what I would call healthy, but the characters aren’t meant to be perfect and if you’re okay with that you’ll enjoy it.

Majority of this first book is focused almost entirely on the romance so the plotline develops very slowly. We get a lot of questions and hints at answers throughout most of the book and it isn’t until the last few chapters where I feel like the fantasy world is really fleshed out and we start to understand what is going on. I managed to guess all the major reveals within the first few chapters, but for me personally the predictability didn’t detract from my enjoyment. The action and drama really picked up right at the end so I can’t wait to see what happens in book two!
